Review information

Review the Patient Information and Instructions for Use with your patients and caregivers at the time of prescribing and dispensing of EPIPEN and during your regular patient interactions.

Demonstrate use

Demonstrate use of the EPIPEN Auto-Injector with your patients and caregivers. Reinforce the correct administration associated with the table in the Instructions for Use called “Incorrect Use and Correct Use of EPIPEN and EPIPEN JR.”

Regular review

Encourage patients and their caregivers to read and review the training resource on Instructions for Use on a regular basis at How to Use EPIPEN or on the EPIPEN YouTube channel.

Practice training

Patients and caregivers should regularly practice using the EPIPEN trainer, a needle-less, non–drug-containing device, included in the EPIPEN carton.

Device check

Prior to using or dispensing an EPIPEN, remove both carrier tubes/protective cases from the S-clip and tip each carrier tube to verify that the auto-injectors readily slide out. If the auto-injectors do not readily slide from the carrier tubes, they should NOT be dispensed or used. Contact Viatris Customer Relations at 1-800-796-9526 to obtain a replacement device(s) at no additional cost.

Expiration check

Remind patients to regularly check the expiration dates and solution clarity of their EPIPEN.

EPIPEN, EPIPEN JR, and their authorized generic auto-injectors are available in cartons of 2.1,2

National food allergy guidelines recommend that patients have access to 2 epinephrine auto-injectors, which provide 2 sequential doses if needed during an anaphylactic reaction.3 Ensure your patient always has 2 auto-injectors available.

Each carton also includes a Trainer, which may be valuable in promoting patient familiarity with the administration of EPIPEN Auto-Injector or its authorized generic.1,2
