Considerations for consultation with an allergist‑immunologist

Because the evaluation and diagnosis of anaphylaxis, as well as its long-term management, can be complex, patients with a history of anaphylaxis should be considered for referral to an allergy-immunology specialist. Such specialists can obtain a detailed allergy history, coordinate laboratory and allergy tests, evaluate the benefits and risks of therapeutic options, and counsel the patient on avoidance measures.^8,9
